Biography

With nearly 40 years in higher education, Dr. Jeffery Allbritten serves as Florida SouthWestern State College’s (Â鶹ŮÀÉ) fourth president. Prior to this he was president of Middle Georgia State University in Macon, Georgia. He has also held leadership roles at Middle Tennessee State University, Florida State College at Jacksonville, Broward College, and Edison State College.

After returning to Â鶹ŮÀÉ as its president in 2012, Dr. Allbritten committed to four institutional priorities: expanding academic programs, providing access to international education, enhancing the student experience, and increasing student research opportunities. In support of these priorities, Dr. Allbritten played a key role in obtaining over $30 million in donations for the expansion of academic programs, facilities, and student experiences such as the addition of the Rist Cyber Institute for expanded information technology studies and the Suncoast Credit Union Arena, home to the Â鶹ŮÀÉ Buccaneers Athletics program and a venue for community events.

At Â鶹ŮÀÉ Dr. Allbritten has established co-curricular programs to provide world-class opportunities for students. His stewardship created a partnership for study abroad programs with the Lorenzo de’ Medici Institute in Florence, Italy as well as affordable opportunities to study internationally in Costa Rica, France, Austria, Spain, and more. He established the Center for International Education and the Center for Undergraduate Research at Â鶹ŮÀÉ to support and grow these programs.

During his time as Â鶹ŮÀÉ president, Dr. Allbritten has increased the amount of scholarship money available to students with up to $2.5 million in scholarships awarded to Â鶹ŮÀÉ students annually, and as the Florida College President Designee for the Florida College System Foundation (FCS), he assists in the selection and awarding of an additional $1 million per year in scholarships to FCS students.

Dr. Allbritten holds a doctoral degree in chemistry from Middle Tennessee State University and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and chemistry, respectively, from Murray State University.
